Fishing is one of the most popular hobbies and stress relievers of all time. Most parents and grandparents enjoy it so much that they take the kids with them and teach them a thing or two about the skill from a very young age. From deep-sea fishing to fishing along the shore, it depends on your personal preference.

Despite all of its advantages, things may not go as planned all the time and your great day of fishing can turn into a troublesome experience. These mishaps can sometimes turn out to be funny memories, and some have been captured on camera. Here, we’ve fished some of the most humorous fishing fails found online. Read on!

Tug Of War: Land vs. Sea

When all you wanted was to enjoy a leisurely fishing trip, but you instead got into a tug of war with a fish. This guy seems to be in quite the encounter with his catch, so much so that he’s being pulled into the waters by it.

On the other hand, it could also be a staged photograph, because what kind of a creature—in shallow waters, by the way—can pull a human that hard? Either way, let’s just hope that he had a good grip and was fortunate enough to take his catch home.

Traffic Controlling Fisherman

At some point in your life, you may have heard a bit of advice telling you to be optimistic—even when pessimism is all you’ve got. Well, here’s a guy who is making the best out of a natural disaster, a real-life example of the quote, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

This guy is surely an inspiration to everyone else affected by the flooding as he is just calmly sitting on his chair amid the chaos just doing what he loves. Hopefully, he caught something to prepare a hot meal because we don’t think food delivery was an option that day.

Not Your Regular Fish

We, as humans, make numerous discoveries and inventions every day. You would think that humans are the smartest creatures on the planet, but this photo proves otherwise. Here, you witness a picture of a fish escaping—more like ignoring—the carefully placed tricks of humans.

This fish saw its treats bobbing around tied to the fishing pole’s strings and, perhaps from experience, figured that it was indeed a trap. After putting two and two together, it swam right underneath, which was a huge slap in the face for the fishers. That is certainly one savage sea creature!

Consequences Be Damned

There’s always a reason behind a sign or warning displayed in a public place. From speeding on the highway to littering in public, they’re all offenses. Even if you agree with them or not, following and obeying them is mandatory. However, we often come across a few rulebreakers.

Pictured above, you can find not one but a group of grown men ignoring a very clear “no fishing from bridge” sign. Maybe they saw the waters under the bridge overflowing with fish and decided to seize the day, regardless of the consequences.

Extreme Fishing

Although angling is the most commonly used fishing technique, there are so many other styles like netting, spearfishing, and hand gathering. Amongst the top tools used is the fishing net, which, if you throw on a highly populated fishing area, will catch bucket loads of fish at a time. 

In the photo above, you can see a woman who caught a single fish using a hand net while on the move onboard a boat. She has some strange headgear on, including a helmet that has what looks like a mini basketball ring attached to it. We guess it’s a water sport; what about you?
